On average, more than 225 people use the Princeton Public Library
each day to check out materials, to read a newspaper, watch a movie,
listen to a story, have copies made, send a fax, have documents
signed by a notary, do research, attend a class, meet with a tutor,
hunt for a job, or surf the Internet.
Change is coming.
The new Library facility on Mercer Street will be complete in
2010. Although the change will not be a big one geographically, it
will be huge in terms of services that can be offered to the
public. One thing that will not change will be the level of service
that the public has come to know and to expect at the Princeton
Public Library. Both the Board of Directors and the Library Staff
are committed to providing the absolute best in service to their
patrons.
Changing as needed:
Technology has changed the world
dramatically, and people now demand instant access to information
for all aspects of their busy lives. Libraries are the access point
for computers and the Internet for many people throughout Mercer
County. While traditional library services remain popular, more
than 38% of users surveyed recently rely on Princeton Public Library
for computer and Internet access alone.
While meeting this need,
PPL finds innovative ways to allow users to access traditional as
well as nontraditional library services from their homes, schools,
or businesses. Residents can get answers to research questions or
school assignments via email and library cardholders can access free
library resources of thousands of newspaper and magazine articles
from the comfort of their home.
Meeting the Needs
The Friends of PPL, a non-profit group that works to raise
awareness and support for our library, raises more than $6,000 each
year at monthly book sales. All the gently used books, CDs and DVDs
are donated by people in the community.
By the Numbers:
