The
Princeton Police Department recognizes that through new technologies,
better training, and citizen involvement, we can all contribute toward
improved policing and a safer city to visit, work or live in.
Organized
in 1909, the Princeton Police Department is proud of its 97 years of
history. The mission of the Department is to protect life and
safeguard property of the residents, businesses, and visitors of the
City of Princeton. The Department will seek to contribute the
highest quality of life for the City by identifying criminal activity,
apprehending and prosecuting known offenders; by maintaining an active
patrol and investigative force to reduce the opportunity to commit
crime, to enforce traffic laws and to reduce accidents through elective
enforcement; by maintaining a sound form of management that focuses on
Department goals and provides for career development through training
and education. The Princeton Police Department wishes to instill
public confidence in the Department by preserving a high degree of
professionalism, dedication, and expertise in the delivery of police
service.
During
the past fiscal year, the Princeton Police Department had approximately
2,346 arrests and citations and answered approximately 5,549 calls for
service.

Det. John Howell
Sgt. Jeff Gilley
Our officers
keep up to date by attending various training seminars in an effort to
remain informed on how to deal with current issues in law enforcement
and better serve City of Princeton residents and businesses, as well as
visitors.
The Department
has several specialized units. The Detective Bureau is staffed with two
officers specially trained to conduct criminal investigations. They
continually receive training to assist in their investigative duties and
enhance their skills.
The Department
added four new cruisers to its fleet this year. We are continually
upgrading our computer and phone system. Our surveillance system
and investigative equipment have also been upgraded.
The Princeton
Police Department proudly supports the School to Work Program.
All area schools may send students interested in a career in law
enforcement to ride along with our officers as part of their curriculum.
The Department, in conjunction with Project Safe Neighborhoods,
Project Childsafe, and the National Shooting Sports Foundation,
with a grant from the US Department of Justice, has again
distributed thousands of free firearms safety kits to our citizens this
year.
The
Department’s goal for the upcoming fiscal year is to continue to provide
the City with police protection to the best of our ability and to bring
our police force back up to full staff. We currently are looking to
employ two to three new officers during the next few months.
