The mission of the Princeton Police Department is to protect life and safeguard property of the residents, businesses, and visitors of the City of Princeton.  The Department will seek to contribute the highest quality of life for the  City by identifying criminal

activity, apprehending and prosecuting known offenders; by maintaining an active patrol and investigative force to reduce the opportunity to commit crime, to enforce traffic laws and to reduce accidents through elective enforcement; by maintaining a sound form of management that focuses on Department goals and provides for career development through training and education.  The Princeton Police Department wishes to instill public confidence in the Department by preserving a high degree of professionalism, dedication, and expertise in the delivery of police service.

Organized in 1909, the Princeton Police Department recognizes that through new technologies, better-trained people, and citizen involvement, we can all contribute toward better policing and a safer city to visit, work or live in.

The Princeton Police Department had approximately 1743 arrests and citations this fiscal year and answered approximately 6545 calls for service.

The Department realizes the need for continued training for the safety of its officers and the citizens of Princeton.  Officers have received training in several areas of concern, including, but not limited to:  Anti-terrorism, fraud and financial crimes, police supervision and management, hostage negotiations, domestic violence, hazardous materials awareness, homicide investigation, digital photography, clandestine laboratory safety, and sexual assault investigation.

The Department added one new cruiser to its fleet this year and two more are on their way.  All officers now have new digital portable radios.  New state-of-the-art undercover surveillance equipment has also been added to our inventory.

Our department participated once again in the Click-It-Or-Ticket program.  This program was put in force in order to increase compliance with West Virginia’s safety belt and child passenger safety laws so more people will be protected.  Another program the Police Department is proud to support is the School-to-Work program.  Area schools send students interested in a career in law enforcement to ride along with our officers as part of their curriculum.  The Princeton Police Department, in conjunction with Project Safe Neighborhoods, Project Childsafe, and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, with a grant from the US Department of Justice, has also distributed thousands of free firearms safety kits to our citizens this year.

We at the Princeton Police Department recognize our contribution to the quality of life and a safe environment in our community through the provision of professional law enforcement services.  We will meet the challenge of providing these services by basing our thought and actions on the following shared values:

Service, Integrity, Responsibility,

Accountability, Professionalism,

Pride and Satisfaction in our Profession.
