The Princeton
Public Works Department is managed by a Director and an Assistant
Director with a workforce of 16 people. The City fleet of public
works vehicles consists of 27 well-maintained vehicles including
various pieces of heavy equipment. The Public Works Department
budget, including street paving, is approximately $1.5 million a
year.
The Public Works Department consists of several basic City
functions: street repair and maintenance, garbage collection,
buildings and grounds maintenance, and a garage facility to maintain
all motor equipment in the Department.
The following
list of accomplishments for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2009, is
in addition to the daily maintenance items performed by the
Princeton Public Works Department, such as street cleaning and
litter control, building maintenance, vehicle and equipment
maintenance and repair, storm sewer and ditch cleaning, mowing,
sign maintenance, leaf collection, and snow plowing. During the
last fiscal year, the Public Works Department completed a number of
significant projects.

Paved over 2
miles of City streets using 2,295 tons of asphalt at a cost of
$183,542.

Renovated
and upgraded the East Side Fountain to commemorate the City of
Princeton’s Centennial.

Removed
concrete steps at the Mercer Street parking lot. This action
helped reduce criminal activity and nuisances in the area.

Upgraded the
Public Works fleet by purchasing a new 4-wheel drive pickup
truck and snow plow.

Oversaw the
construction of Phase V of the Princeton Sidewalks Project.
Sidewalks were replaced on Mercer Street from 6th Street to
Douglas Street.

Completed
extensive mowing project and brush removal at Dan Hale
Reservoir.

Cleaned
approximately 5,000 feet of storm sewer ditch, rebuilt 19 catch
basins, and installed 200 feet of storm drain pipe.

Installed
approximately 75 tons of asphalt in pothole repair.

Collected
over 4,700 tons of garbage.

Answered 662
service requests by city residents and businesses.

Replaced 48
signs in the street and traffic sign program.

Painted all
of the crosswalks, school signs, yellow curbs, and parking
spaces in the City of Princeton, using over 400 gallons of
paint.
