WHEREAS, Sterling Grocery Company opened for business on March 6, 1917 as Princeton Flour and Feed Co., soon changing its name and establishing itself as Sterling Grocery Company on June 24, 1918, is the oldest registered business in the City of Princeton; and
WHEREAS, the history of America is a history of a nation at work, sustained achievement is not easy and 100 years in business is a testament to the hard work that is at the heart of companies like Sterling Grocery Company; and
WHEREAS, having paved the way for small businesses in the City of Princeton, Sterling Grocery Company mastered the delicate balance between tradition and change, thus remaining in business for now a century; and
WHEREAS, Roger Buckner and all of those associated with its centennial anniversary are to be commended for their continuing contributions of time, energy, and ability on behalf of their company and community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Timothy C. Ealy, with the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Princeton, do hereby recognize the Sterling Grocery for this milestone accomplishment and the legacy created one hundred years ago.
